Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College volleyball team has released its 2010 match schedule which includes seven home play dates and two early season tournament tests away from campus which include a match-up with Randolph-Macon College, a 2009 NCAA Division-III national tournament participant. Coming off its fifth consecutive 20-win campaign, PC will look to improve on a Great South Athletic Conference runner-up finish from a year ago.
After opening the schedule with local foe Toccoa Falls College, the Lady Lions will hit the road to play in early season tournaments hosted at Birmingham Southern College and Greensboro College. Awaiting PC at the GC Invitational will be Randolph-Macon who took home its first-ever Old Dominion Athletic Conference volleyball championship last season. Also lurking on the 2010 Lady Lions' non-conference lineup will be NCAA Division-II member North Greenville University who will play a home-and-home series with PC in September. In-state foes on the docket for the netters include Berry College and Oglethorpe University, both of which did not make an appearance on the 2009 schedule.
In conference play, Piedmont will host two GSAC play dates including an October tri-match with long-time foe LaGrange College as well as Salem College who joined the conference this past academic year. Agnes Scott College and newly added Covenant College roll into town for matches on October 2 while the Lady Lions will have to face GSAC members Huntingdon College, Spelman College, and Wesleyan College all on the road. In addition, PC travels to defending conference champ Maryville College in late September in an attempt to avenge a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Scots in the GSAC tournament final last fall.
Of the 29 matches on the 2010 schedule, 25 are against NCAA Division-III South Region opponents. PC will host seven home play dates including its season opener which takes place on Wednesday, September 1 against local foe Toccoa Falls College with the first serve set for 7:00.
