Newport News, VA -- The Piedmont College softball team was knocked out of the NCAA Regional this afternoon by the Bobcats of Frostburg State University in a match up of the #6 and #7 tournament seeds.  In a back-and-forth game that saw three lead changes in just two innings, Frostburg took a 5-3 decision despite a late rally by Piedmont.

The Bobcats jumped on top early with a run in the visiting half of the third to take a 1-0 lead over PC.  However, the Lady Lions would respond quickly with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the same frame.

After freshman infielder Jamie Dennis drew a lead off walk and stole second, shortstop Megan McClain singled to move her teammate over to third.  The freshman pair then took advantage of a defensive miscue scoring on a Frostburg error to surge ahead 2-1 after three innings of play.

In the following inning, the Bobcats would reclaim the lead scoring two runs to push back in front 3-2 before adding a pair of scores in the top of the sixth to move their lead up to three.

Piedmont would attempt to rally in the bottom of the seventh when Rebecca Renfroe doubled to score the freshman Dennis cutting the lead to just two.

With runners on second and third on two outs, the comeback was cut just short as Frostburg State collected the final out of the game to move on in NCAA Regional play.

PC was led offensively by a trio of freshman as shortstop Megan McClain went a perfect 4-4 at the plate while scoring a run.  Also chipping in were fellow infielders Jamie Dennis and Rebecca Renfroe who went a combined 3-5 with two runs scored and a RBI.

On the mound, #B.J. Cofer# took only her fifth loss of a stellar 2010 season that saw the junior pitcher collect 22 wins on the year.  Cofer allowed just three earned runs in the day's contest while striking out four.

The loss eliminates Piedmont from post-season play and ends PC's season at 29-12 overall marking the highest single-season win total since 33 victories during the 2006 season which also ended with a NCAA post-season appearance.
