Burgen Tennis Courts on the campus of Piedmont College will serve as the site for the 2010 Great South Athletic Conference Tennis championships on the weekend of April 30 to May 2.
Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College men's and women's tennis teams are making final preparations in anticipation of the upcoming Great South Athletic Conference Tennis championship which will take place at Burgen Tennis Courts on the campus of Piedmont.  On the women's side of the tournament, play will begin with quarter-final action this Friday, April 30 while the men will start one day later with semi-final play on Saturday, May 1.

The first day of the women's tournament will kick off with match one between the #3 seed Spelman College and the #6 seed Piedmont College.  The Jaguars of Spelman College earned their third seed by way of a 5-2 mark in conference play including a 7-2 victory over tournament host Piedmont.  On the other side of the net will be the Piedmont Lady Lions who beat out two GSAC member schools to earn the final tournament spot with a 2-5 conference record.  Rounding out the action on day one will be match two featuring the #4 seed Maryville College who takes on the #5 seed LaGrange College.  The Scots take their fourth spot in the tournament with a 4-3 GSAC record that includes a 8-1 win over their first round opponent.  The Panthers of LaGrange College claim the fifth seed with a 3-4 conference mark including wins over GSAC member schools Wesleyan College and Salem College.

Awaiting the winners of the quarterfinal matches of day one will be the #2 seed Agnes Scott College and the top seeded Hawks of Huntingdon College.  Agnes Scott takes on the winner of match one between #3 seed Spelman College and #6 Piedmont College.  The Scotties earned their first round bye by virtue of a 6-1 GSAC record with their only loss coming to the #1 seed Huntingdon College.  The Hawks of Huntingdon College rolled to their #1 seed with a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play and will await the winner of match two between #4 Maryville College and #5 LaGange College.

The men's side of the tournament will start on Saturday, May 1, just a day later than the women's side.  Play will begin with match one pitting the top seed Maryville College against the #4 seed Piedmont College.  Maryville never fell in GSAC competition this season tabbing a perfect 6-0 mark en route to its #1 seed and will take on a Piedmont side that the Scots defeated twice already in 2010.  Facing the top seed will be the tournament host Piedmont College whose sole GSAC win this season came over conference member LaGrange College.  In the other semi-final are two teams who split their matches earlier this year in the #2 seed Huntingdon College and the #3 seed LaGrange College.  The Hawks of Huntingdon eared their second seed with a 3-3 mark in conference play including a 6-3 win over their first round opponent.  On the other side of the net, the #3 seed LaGrange Panthers enter tournament play with a 2-4 GSAC record which also includes a victory over the Hawks.
