Jekyll Island, GA -- The Piedmont College men's golf team struggled to a 25th place finish out of 27 teams this weekend at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. The tournament featured a nationally elite NCAA Division III field with seven of the nation's top 10 teams in the field.
Piedmont posted its highest 18-hole score of the year with a 337 in the opening round and could never recover as the Lions carded a 54-hole score of 337-316-328--981 to finish five strokes behind Hampden-Syndey College.
Clifton Barton led the team with a score of 81-77-78--236 which was good for a tie for 77th in the 134-player field.
Piedmont will look to rebound as the team will travel to Jacksonville, NC to take part in the 39th Annual MCCS Intercollegiate hosted by the Marine Corps on Camp LeJeune's Scarlet and Gold courses. The event will again feature some of the nation's top NCAA Divison III teams.
