Three Lion Seniors Named To GSAC Men's Basketball All-Conference Team

Sam Coppage and fellow seniors J.C. Herebia and Michael Rubio were honored by the Great South Athletic Conference as All-Conference selections.
LaGrange, GA – The Piedmont College men's basketball team placed its three seniors on the Great South Athletic Conference men's basketball All-Conference team as released by the conference office this morning. #J.C Herebia#, Michael Rubio and Sam Coppage were each honored with the distinction.

Additionally, fellow freshmen Tyler Arnold and Josh Chapman were each selected to the four-person All-Freshman team.

For the seventh consecutive season, the PC men's team placed the most players on the league's All-Academic squad with seven players garnering the prestigious honor.

For the second consecutive year Herebia was the Lions' leading scorer as he deposited 14.4 points per game this year. He also pulled down a team-best 142 rebounds for a 5.7 average. The All-Conference honor is the second consecutive for the senior forward.

Rubio also makes his second appearance on the GSAC All-Conference team after averaging 13.5 points per game through the 2009-10 campaign. He was the team leader in three-point field goals made with 42 and second on the team in steals with 35.

Coppage earned his first All-Conference honor after a senior year in which he averaged 9.7 points per game after overcoming a knee injury to start the season. The point guard dished out a team-high 76 assists while shooting a league-leading 88% from the free throw line (91-103).

Arnold provided the Lions a spark off the bench all season as he averaged 8.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in just 16 minutes of action per game.

Chapman, who played the season as a freshman after earning a medical red-shirt last season, also provided energy for the Lions with averages of 2.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in just over minutes of action per game.

Tracey Gardner, Josh Haymore, Daniel Lampl, Will Martin, Peter Ricks, Rubio and Phillip Sloan each were named to the All-Academic team honoring players of sophomore academic standing or higher that carry a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. The Lions extended their streak to seven consecutive years of having the league's most All-Academic honorees.

The second-seeded Lions open up GSAC Tournament play on Friday, February 26 when the team plays third-seeded LaGrange College with tip off set for 7:30 PM at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA.
