Demorest, GA -- Less than 24 hours after defeating Spelman College, the Piedmont College women's basketball team picked up a non-conference victory this afternoon at Cave Arena over Rust College by the score of 70-62. After taking a 10-point advantage into intermission the Lady Lions held off the Bearcats in the second half for the eight-point decision.
PC used a 16-6 streak in the first six minutes to reclaim the lead for the final time of the contest with four baskets from behind the three-point line. After the Bearcats knotted the score at 16 with eight minutes remaining the Lady Lions ended the period on a 13-3 run with 12 points coming in the paint.
In the second half the home team would extend the margin to a game-high 12 points at the 15-minute mark before RC went on a 12-0 spurt to climb within a basket. The Lady Lions answered with a 7-2 mini-run highlighted by four consecutive hits from the charity stripe from
Lisa Jennings.
Sada Wheeler continued her dominant post-play with a double-double of 21 points and 18 rebounds, both game highs. The forward also notched a game-best six blocked shots and hit nine baskets from the floor.
Jennings added 15 points including three tri-fectas while
Amber Satterfield also reached double figures with 10 points. The Lady Lions held the edge in the paint 26-24 and connected on 17 second-chance points.
The women, now 7-11 overall and winners of three of their last four games, will return to the hardwood again on Saturday, January 30th as they host defending GSAC champion Maryville College at Cave Arena starting at 2:00.
