Maryville Edges Women's Soccer For GSAC Title

Senior Casey Lovelady posted the Lady Lions' goal this afternoon as the women fell just short against host Maryville College 2-1 in the GSAC Tournament championship match.

In a closely contested Great South Athletic Conference Championship the Piedmont College women's soccer team fell to top-seeded and host Maryville College by the score 2-1. The Lady Lions led 1-0 with 19 minutes remaining but saw the opposition post a pair of goals down the stretch en route to victory.

PC finishes the season with an overall record of 14-4 and a runner-up finish in both the Great South Athletic Conference regular season and tournament.   The win earns Maryville an automatic berth into the 2009 NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Just 13 minutes into regulation senior Casey Lovelady broke away and posted the contest's first goal unassisted. The lead would remain for the 58 minutes until the home standing Scots found the equalizer. MC would post the eventual game-winner just two minutes later to steal the come from behind win.

Between the posts Kaitlyn Induni was spectacular posting 12 saves. The Scots outshot Piedmont 20-9 and 14-5 on goal. In addition to Lovelady's two shots on goal Justine Clay, Erin Pippin and Macie Rooke had scoring chances.
