LaGrange, GA -- The Piedmont College men's cross country team claimed first place in the Great South Athletic Conference Championship this morning at Pyne Road Park hosted by LaGrange College. The men finished with 36 points narrowly edging second place Huntingdon College who earned 39.
The championship is the first in seven years since the Lions took the title in 2002 at Maryville.
James Maxwell and
Wesley Milton finished in third and fourth place overall with 8K times of 28:36 and 28:44 respectively.
Aaron Saylor crossed the tape in 29:17 while
Matt Collins closely followed in 29:55.
Montez Jones rounded out the field in 32.17.
For their efforts Maxwell and Milton were named to the Great South All-Conference team while head coach Scott Stanley was named the Coach of the Year.
On the women's side the Lady Lions finished in six place of the six-team field.
Michelle Sosia led the team with a 6K time of 27:57, good enough for 18th place overall.
Anna McClatchy crossed 10 spots behind with a time of 29:25 while
Leah Cunningham finished in 31:49. Katie Rice and
Melissa Crane rounded out the squad in 34:15 and 34:24 apiece.
