Salem, VA - Different day but same story for the Piedmont College softball team as the Salem Regional of the NCAA Tournament was once again suspended due to weather. After yet another upset victory as the girls from Georgia knocked off 4th ranked Emory University earlier this afternoon, the Lady Lions will have to wait for their next opponent once more after this latest rain delay.
Waiting for Piedmont in the morning will be the Salem Regional's top seed and the nation's top ranked team in the Salisbury Seagulls who, like the Lady Lions, are so far 2-0 in NCAA Tournament action. The Seagulls paved the way to their matchup with Piedmont care of a Michelle Gravdahl grand slam in the top of the 8th earlier today over 14th ranked Christopher Newport University.
So far, the Lady Lions have faced a pair of opponents in Salem as well and head into the matchup with #1 Salisbury fresh off a 4-3 come-from-behind upset of the country's fourth ranked team and in-state foe, Emory University. Piedmont used a
Taylor Morgan basehit to score two trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th in the contest held earlier today to ground the Eagles and set up tomorrow's match-up of undefeateds at the regional.
Game time for the May 12th showdown with Salisbury is set for 10 am at the Moyer Sports Complex. Fans can continue to follow the team all week long with live stat and live video links available on the
2013 Salem Regional website.
