FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina -- Following the conclusion of the 2012-2013 fall season of USA South Athletic Conference competition, the current standings for the overall, men's and women's President's Cups have been released. Piedmont stands in fifth place out of 12 member institutions after conclusion of the fall sports.
Anchored by a runner up finish by the PC men's cross country team, the Lions collected 26 total points and are only six points shy of third-place Averett University.
In the divided races, Piedmont stands in eighth out of nine men's schools and fifth out of 12 women's schools.
The 2012-2013 season is the eighth year the USA South will present an overall, a men's and a women's President's Cup. Currently, Christopher Newport University has the lead in all three cup standings.
The USA South Athletic Conference President's Cup symbolizes the league's top men's and women's athletic program each year. The President's Cup is awarded by a points system where the first place team in each sport will be awarded the number of points that corresponds to the number of schools that sponsor teams in that sport. The second place team receives one point less than the first place team and so on, down to one point for the last place team that competes.
