Demorest, GA -- Piedmont College head men's basketball coach Lee Glenn has announced new additions to the Lions' bench as the team prepares for the upcoming 2010-11 season. Justin Hallman will join the eighth-year head coach on the bench as the top assistant while J.C. Herebia and Frank Davis will come on board as a volunteer assistants.
Hallman joins Coach Glenn after serving a two-year stint at Upper Perkiomen High School (Pennsburg, PA) as both the Assistant Varsity and head Junior Varsity head coach. Prior to his time at Upper Perkiomen, Hallman was the lead assistant at Perkiomen Valley HS in Graterford, PA.
Hallman has experienced success at the NCAA Division III level as he was a three-year letter-winner at Cabrini College in Radnor, PA where he played under current PC Athletic Director John Dzik. Hallman served as team captain during his junior year in which the team posted a 14-13 overall record and third place finish in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (formerly Pennsylvania Athletic Conference) regular season.
Hallman graduated from Cabrini in 2006 with a degree in English/Communications where he was a staff writer for the Loquitur and served as a Student Ambassador for the Admissions Office. He will be pursuing his Masters in Early Childhood Education from PC beginning in the Fall of 2010.
Hallman also has extensive coaching experience on the AAU level for the Berks-Mont Vipers and head coaching experience of the Delaware Valley Region for the Keystone State Games.
“As the search progressed, Justin rose to the top of the large applicant pool because of his experience in and commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy. In addition to having a background as a Division III player, Justin is a great communicator and fully understands the educational and athletic balances associated with a small, private college," stated Coach Glenn. "He endorses our program’s goals and mission and is going to provide new energy and perspective to not only our men's basketball program but to the entire PC campus community."
Also on the bench for Coach Glenn will be former standout J.C. Herebia who just capped a stellar two-year career in the Green & White after transferring to PC from fellow NCAA Division III member Texas Lutheran University. Last season, the forward earned the team's Teammate of the Year award after leading the Lions in both scoring (14.1 ppg) and rebounding (5.6 rpg). Herebia was twice named to the Great South Athletic Conference All-Conference team and earned a spot on the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association All-State team this past season after being named the GABCA Newcomer of the Year in 2008-09.
For his career, the 2006 American Southwest Conference Freshman of the Year at TLU, was a 1,000 point scorer with 827 points coming in his final two seasons under Coach Glenn. For the past two seasons he was the squad's leading scorer.
"I am looking forward to J.C's continued contribution to our program as he transitions from a player to the coaching staff. He is a leader-by-example type of person that demands respect from those who come in contact with him so he will be able to continue to mentor the young guys in our program. He as aspirations of becoming a basketball coach and I am glad to be able to open that door of opportunity for him."
Herebia serves PC as the Resident Director of Mayflower Hall and serves as the campus Intramurals Director. Frank Davis is entering his first season as a volunteer assistant on head coach Lee Glenn’s staff.
