Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College baseball team fell to visiting Montclair State University this evening by the score of 10-6. The Red Hawks outhit PC sixteen to eleven and posted five runs in the eighth to seal the victory over the host Lions.
After Piedmont jumped on the board in the bottom of the first on a throwing error, the Red Hawks would tally ten unanswered runs including two multi-run innings to take a 10-1 lead into the eighth. Piedmont would post five runs of its own in the home half of the ninth, but the rally would come up short as Montcair State took the game by a four run margin.
Curtis Cornett paced the Lions offensively going two for three at the plate and collecting two RBIs. From the mound for Piedmont,
Ed Cook went four innings allowing only one run on four hits and striking out five. Freshman
Kevin Caldwell also contributed for PC allowing no hits in one inning of work while fanning two.
The loss drops Piedmont to 5-9 overall and 3-6 at home. The Lions will look to rebound quickly when they take on the visiting Tigers of Hampden-Sydney College at Loudermilk Field on Monday, March 8th with game time set at 7:00.
