Lions Split Doubleheader With Methodist

Senior Justin Vorherr went 4-7 including a homerun and three RBI's in the Lions' final games of the 2009 season.
Demorest, GA -- In the final games of the 2009 season the Piedmont College baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Methodist University this afternoon at Loudermilk Field. In the opener the Monarchs (27-13) took the 9-7 decision while the Lions (20-21) rallied to take the finale 7-6.

In the opener both teams notched single runs in the first inning before MU tacked on four runs over the next three innings. With the score 5-1 the home team posted four runs on three hits to tie the score highlighted by a two-run blast off the bat of senior Justin Vorherr.

The Monarchs quickly answered with three runs on as many hits in the sixth before Zac Stein drilled a solo homerun off the scoreboard. John Duke would cap the two-run inning with an RBI-double but the Lions fell short in the ninth.

In the nightcap PC jumped out with two runs in the first on four hits as Duke and Vorherr notched RBI's. The teams traded runs in the second and the visitors knotted the score in fourth at 3-3. The home team tacked on four runs on three hits as senior Andrew Migetz drove in a pair with a bases loaded double to leftcenter.

Reliever Josh Strickland picked up the save going two scoreless innings striking out three. Senior Matt Burgess picked up his seventh victory scattering five hits while Duke paced the offense going 5-7 with three runs batted in and a pair of stolen bases.
